Browsing ESDS data collections for housing and the local environment data

Retrieve a list of housing and the local environment related studies by using the Browse by subject page. For example, browse a list of studies where 'housing' is the overall subject content of the data at study level. This will provide a table of studies with links to the catalogue records.

Researchers can retrieve a list of housing and the local environment related studies by searching the catalogue using a free-text search or refining the search by keyword, date, methodology etc. This will provide a list of studies with links to the catalogue records, for example:

use the Catalogue search to search for keyword 'slums' or the keywords 'public housing'

Use the UK Data Archive Humanities and Social Science Electronic Thesaurus (HASSET) to search for keywords, and explore their narrower, broader or related terms, for example:
search on the term 'housing' in the thesaurus search on the term 'mobile homes' in the thesaurus



Looking at variables in the ESDS data collections

Researchers can retrieve a list of housing-related studies by searching on the Variables (variable labels and value labels within a dataset) search option, for example:

search on the variable term 'hous*' to retrieve housing-related variables
search on the variable term "rented accommodation"



Downloading and ordering housing and the local environment data

Registered users can download or order most data for offline analysis. Most survey data are available to download in standard formats, for example, SPSS, STATA and tab-delimited. Further information on how to access and download data is available from our access and support pages.
