Introduction to data collections

Online access

ESDS Qualidata is committed to offering more flexible access to digital qualitative data, via the ESDS web-based download system and online browsing of data. The Qualidata Online project represents the second phase of work on developing online access to qualitative data using XML standards and tools.

Currently the following datasets have been made available

Edwardians: Family Life and Work Experience Before 1918 by Paul Thompson

Mothers and Daughters: Accounts of Health in the Grandmother Generation by Mildred Blaxter

100 Families: Families, Social Mobility and Ageing, an Intergenerational Approach by Paul Thompson

Mothers Alone: Poverty and the Fatherless Family, 1955-1966 by Denis Marsden

Coming attractions

ESDS Qualidata is currently working on making additional collections available:

  • Dennis Marsden's Education and the Working Class (1962) on working class to middle class transitions
  • John H. Goldthorpe et al. The Affluent Worker (1962) undertaken to test the thesis of working class embourgeoisement

ESDS is now part of the
UK Data Service
.

These ESDS web pages will remain during the transition, but may not be up to date.
