National Social Policy and Social Change Archive

The National Social Policy and Social Change Archive, was set up in October 1996 by Qualidata with support from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the University of Essex. As well as preserving existing collections, the Archive seeks to identify the raw data arising out of contemporary studies broadly relating to social policy and social change and to encourage their deposit. The Archive was officially opened in October 1997 by Professor Peter Townsend. A workshop was held entitled 'Revisiting Peter Townsend: Social Policy Research and its Re-use' and in 2001 a symposium was organised by ESDS Qualidata on Celebrating Classic Sociology: Pioneers of Contemporary British Qualitative Research, at which many of the following data depositors presented experiences of their own research. An edited collection of the papers was published in the International Journal of Social Research Methodology, Theory and Practice: Special Issue - Celebrating Classic Sociology: Pioneers of Contemporary British Qualitative Research which offers a fascinating insight into the dynamics, politics and realities of doing social research.

Search the ESDS Qualidata catalogue for a listing of NSPSCA collections (currently 37 collections). This search may take some time.
