Data Documentation and Management Workshop
Wiener Institut für Sozialwissenschaftliche Dokumentation und Methodik (WISDOM)
Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 April 2010
Vienna, Austria
This event is a workshop for doctoral students in the social sciences about data documentation and data management. It
explains how data can be properly managed from the beginning of a study. The importance and benefits of good data management
will be discussed. Topics covered will include the data lifecycle, research ethics (consent, anonymisation and confidentiality),
data formats (transcription, metadata), data security and data management planning. Each topic will include both presentations
and practical, hands-on exercises.
Each day will follow a similar structure in which initial sessions will be presentations from UK Data Archive staff. These
will be followed by an interactive exercise, such as small group work, case studies, or focused feedback on participants'
projects, depending on the context of the previous presentation.
