1970 British Cohort Study Malaise Inventory Teaching Resource

The Centre for Longitudinal Studies (CLS) - funded under the ESRC Researcher Development Initiative - has created a set of teaching datasets and associated resources based on the National Child Development Study (NCDS) and the 1970 British Cohort Study (BCS70).

ESDS Longitudinal has converted part of the resource, exercises on measuring signs of psychological distress or depression in teenagers and adults using the BCS70, into an online step-by-step guide which can be used in conjunction with the data. The guide includes information on how to access the data, an introduction to the established set of survey questions that measures psychological distress - the Malaise Inventory - and a number of data analysis exercises using SPSS.
