Introduction

ESDS Longitudinal is dedicated to building research capacity within the social sciences. In order to enable researchers to extract full value from longitudinal data resources, the service has produced the following resources:

• comparable indicators allowing users to match variables across studies and with the Office for National Statistics Primary set of harmonised concepts and questions
• geography variables in the ESDS Longitudinal major studies
• teaching and learning resources - teaching/sampler datasets
• biomedical data collected in longitudinal studies
• UK longitudinal data in an international context, including timelines and harmonisation projects
• a search of publications citing ESDS Longitudinal surveys
• other longitudinal resources, including data resources external to ESDS Longitudinal

Biomedical data in longitudinal studies

This new ESDS Longitudinal resource seeks to provide social scientists interested in exploiting the increasing amount of biomedical data collected alongside the major longitudinal studies with an overview of what are available and how these data might be used. The resource provides a list of key publications in this evolving research area and will be developed further during 2010.
