The work of ESDS Longitudinal is undertaken jointly by the UK Data Archive and the
ESRC United Kingdom Longitudinal Studies Centre (ULSC). The
service currently provides a web-based download service, specialist user support that also links up with specialist support
provided by the Centre for Longitudinal Studies (CLS), training and workshops and a range of
value-added data enhancements for the following longitudinal data collections:
It also encourages linkage with other datasets not directly supported by ESDS, such as the ONS
Longitudinal Study and the Timescapes project and, in conjunction with the ESRC
National Strategy Committee, aims to facilitate access to new longitudinal data collections. ESDS Longitudinal has recently undertaken a data audit of
two major longitudinal investments by the Medical Research Council: the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and
Children (ALSPAC) and the National Survey of Health and Development (also known as the 1946 Birth Cohort Study). This
is in preparation for improved access for secondary users.
From June 2009, ESDS Longitudinal has made available a set of sampler
data files produced by the ALSPAC study team.
