The OECDs Science and Technology Indicators are made up of two databases, the Main Science and Technology Indicators and the Research and Development Statistics.
The Main Science and Technology Indicators provides a set of indicators that reflect the level and structure of the efforts undertaken by OECD Member countries and selected non-member economies in the field of Science and Technology as available from 1981 onwards.
It contains over 150 main data series selected from the OECD Scientific and Technological Indicators database. One hundred of these series concern resources devoted to research and experimental development, and an additional 35 are measures of output and the impact of scientific and technological activities. Also included are 11 economic series used to calculate indicators such as growth rates at fixed prices, R&D expenditures as a percentage of GDP or industrial value added, and to convert data into a common currency using comparisons at purchasing power parities. The series are grouped under the following subject headings:

Accessing the OECD Main Science and Technology Statistics
To access the ESDS International macro-economic datasets you must be a user from a UK higher or further education institution. We cannot provide data to users outside of this community due to the data re-distribution license agreements we have with our data providers. If you are a member of a UK higher or further education institution access to the macro-economic datasets is provided free of charge.
Access to data requires ESDS registration and uses the Federated Access / Athens authentication system. Registration is a simple online process - go to the How to Register web page at www.esds.ac.uk/aandp/access/login.asp to begin the process.
Once you have registered with ESDS and attempt to access one of the macro-economic datasets, you will automatically be prompted to agree to additional dataset specific conditions if they apply.
