This guide is intended to introduce you to the new features in Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server version 8.0. ESDS International upgraded its Beyond 20/20 data delivery software in September 2009 and the new version includes a more user-friendly interface and some useful additional features.

The Improved Interface

The new interface uses intuitive icons rather than the old actions menu for selecting dimensions, downloading the data, print options and re-arranging the table.

To select dimensions you can use either the Select Items to View icon or click on the dimension name itself. If you want to re-arrange the format of the table you can either select the Set Dimension Order icon or drag and drop the dimension headings. Once the data is in the format you desire you can use the Download icon and select your download format to download the data to your pc.

The Chart and Table views of the data can also now be toggled using the new chart tab.

You can change the type of chart (for example to a bar, pie or line chart) by using the Chart Types icon .

To print the chart use the View printable version icon then select your print options.

User Profiles

In addition to the improved look, the new version offers a new profiling functionality which can be accessed using the Profile icon .

Profiles enable you to save your selections from each dimension (for example, country or series) of the database. When you return to the database you can re-activate your previously saved profiles even if the database has been updated in the meantime.

For example, say you wish to select data for a number of countries in a particular database. With the new profile feature, once you have selected your countries you can then save this selection as a named profile by clicking on the profile icon then choosing Save current selections as a profile option: Beyond 20/20 will then remember the countries you have selected and store this selection as a named profile for you to use in future sessions. The procedure can be repeated for any other dimension of the database. For example, you can also select the series you require and then save those selections as a profile in the series dimension in the same way.

Each time you log on, Beyond 20/20 will recognize who you are and can retrieve your previously saved selections for that database. This means that the next time you wish to run the same query you can click on the Profile icon then select Activate profile to reopen your saved selections.

Selections in each dimension are saved individually so you can save selections in as many or few dimensions are you want. The profiles will be saved until you choose to delete them.

Moving To Another Database

You can now move between databases without leaving the Beyond 20/20 interface. To move to another database select the 'Direct links to macro data' drop down box at the top of the page then select the database you require.
