Notes from the General Household Survey: Ethnic Variable
Question
In GHS01-02, they appear to have removed
ETHNIC which contains 9 or 10 categories. The user guide suggests that they
recoded it from ETHNIC into ETHGP2 (5 groups) and ETHNIC2 (white or non-white).
Answer
I've spoken to the GHS team and the plan is to release the full codes for ETHNIC
2001 in March this year, when they release the 2002 data. This is so that they
can deliver the revised weights for 2001 at the same time.
