Question
In the 2000-2001 and 2002-2002 General Household Survey,
a new version of the education variable EdLev00 has been added to both datasets.
What is the difference between the new version and the old version of EdLev00?
Answer
An incorrect (old) syntax file had
been used to derive edlev00 in 2000 and 2001. This meant that some qualifications
were grouped into the wrong categories. Therefore, ONS ran the correct syntax
(e.g., for 2002) on the 2000 and 2001 datasets to correctly derive edlev00
and re-supplied the variable to the UKDA.
