Occupational coding
Information on occupational coding in the GHS has changed significantly over
time. The following Excel file provides details of the changes to Occupational
Coding for the period 1972-2002.
The following word document gives
some general information on changes to occupational coding over time (not GHS-specific).
NS-SEC
ESDS Government has created some STATA syntax to derive a number of NS-SEC variables
for the 1991/92 to 2000/01 GHS datasets.
Please read the following Word document
before looking at the accompanying files because it provides a summary of the
work and a description of each the accompanying files.
Accompanying files:
- NSSECdetails.doc:
this document provides a description of NS-SEC and how it is derived. It is
drawn from the ONS web site
- NSSECinGHS.xls: this
file summarises the variables that can be derived for each GHS year
- GHS_NSSECsyntax.doc:
this file contains the syntax to derive each variable in STATA
- NSSEC90.dta:
this is a STATA file that contains SOC90 and provides the matrix to link SOC90
with the dataset for each year. It is used in conjunction with the STATA syntax
file
- Employmentstatus.doc: a flowchart used
to derive employment status for 1991 - 1996.
