Usual residence in the early LFS datasets 1975-1991
Information on usual residence in
the LFS has changed over time. The geography in the dataset is region and also
region with a breakdown for metropolitan areas. The inconsistencies are concerning
how London and the South East are recorded and the change from Clydeside to
Strathclyde in 1989.
The following Excel file provides:
(a) details of the changes to the two main variables on usual residence for
the period 1975 to 1991.
(b) details of all the derived variables which account for any inconsistencies.
The Word document provides more detailed
information about the problems relating to the inconsistencies over time and
details the solution for each by the means of derived variables.
The SPSS syntax file provides syntax
in order to derive each variable for all years.
Accompanying files:
-
Information on the derived variables,
including why they were required (Word)
-
Tables displaying the two main
variables, including the original coding and coding for the derived variables
(Excel)
-
Syntax for all derived variables
(SPSS syntax file)
