Ethnicity
Information on Ethnicity from the
LFS has changed significantly over time. The following Excel file provides:
(a) details of the changes to Ethnicity
for the period 1979 to 2005. A colour coding system is used to indicate the
years where the variable categories are the same; a change to the colour indicates
a change to the categories
(b) three derived variables which are separately coloured for the period 1979
to 2005. The non-coloured variables in the excel file indicate the existing
variables with categories relevant only to some sub-population, e.g. Black.
All the values and categories with
the frequency distributions can be found in the Word/PDF file below. The documents
provide more detailed information about the changes over time and SPSS syntax
to derive each variable for corresponding years. A background document is also
provided.
