Comparability between Census 2001 and General Household
Survey 2001 variables
The following spreadsheet contains a look-up table which compares the 2001 Census
variable classifications with the variables available from the 2001 General
Household Survey (GHS) dataset. If a variable is not available on the GHS there
is an indication of whether or not the variable could be produced.

The spreadsheet contains four columns:
- the first column contains a list of 2001 Census variables
- the second and third columns indicate (with notes) whether or not the variable
is available on the 2001 Sample of Anonymised Records (SARs) from the Census
- the final column indicates how the GHS 2001 compares with the first three
columns. The two SARs columns refer to the Licensed File available from the
University of Manchester and the ONS in-house file (CAMs) respectively. The
SARs web site provides detailed
information about these two files.
