ESDS Government
The large-scale government surveys, such as the General Household Survey and the Labour Force
Survey, are key data resources for social science researchers. The work of ESDS Government, led by CCSR, includes:
- raising awareness of the research potential of the government datasets
- exchanging information between users and producers
- running training courses on key topics of interest, on specific statistical
packages and on methods of statistical analysis
- providing topic-related online course materials and a range of teaching datasets
- creating a number of value-added products
which provide easy routes through the complex documentation of the government
surveys
- working closely with ONS and other data producers to ensure that the complementarity
of interest between producers, commissioning government departments and academic
users is maximised.
The acquisition, processing and delivery
of the large-scale government datasets under this service is undertaken
by the UKDA. Data is available via the web-based download system
and the ESDS Nesstar system for online browsing and visualisation of the data.
