Abstract:
For the first time in a UK census, 1991 statistical output includes this product which differs from the traditional census output of tables of aggregated information in that abstracts of anonymised individual records are released. The released records contain neither names or addresses nor any other specific information which would lead to the identification of an individual or household.
The household SAR is a one per cent sample of households and the individuals in each of these households. The file contains detailed information on household characteristics, such as tenure and number of rooms, together with data about each individual in the household and how they are related to the head of the household.

The geographical basis of the household SAR is the Registrar General's Standard Regions plus Wales and Scotland. The South East region is split into Inner and Outer London and the remainder of the South East.

Main Topics:
This dataset includes the standard census variables such as age, sex, marital status, employment status, occupation, industry, social class, accommodation, bath/shower, tenure, number of rooms sex, economic position and social class of family head. However, new questions were introduced in 1991 on limiting long-term illness, ethnic group, central heating and term-time address of students. Also a question on weekly hours worked was re-introduced.
