It covered the period from 1841 1871 using a variety of demographic data from the Database of Irish Historic Statistics. The GIS data that comprises this study represent the administrative boundaries that the demographic data refer to.

Main Topics:

The boundaries that comprise this dataset were the main boundaries used to publish census data between 1841 and 1871. The barony boundaries were used for the population censuses, the Poor Law Union boundaries were used for the agricultural censuses, the Poor Law and a variety of other purposes.

Coverage:

 Time Period Covered: 1841 - 1871
Dates of Fieldwork: 01 March 2003 - 31 May 2003
Country: Ireland
Spatial Units: Barony and Poor Law Union boundaries.
Observation Units: Administrative units (geographical/political)
Kind of Data: Textual data; Numeric data; Alpha/numeric data; GIS spatial data

Universe Sampled:

Location of Units of Observation: National; Subnational
Population: Barony and Poor Law Union boundaries extant in Ireland, 1841- 1871.

Methodology:

Time Dimensions: Cross-sectional (one-time) study
Sampling Procedures: No sampling (total universe)
Method of Data Collection: Compilation or synthesis of existing material
Data Sources: The Database of Irish Historical Statistics.
