Conversion of data and documentation formats

All files checked thoroughly for completeness and accuracy.

No conversion necessary as data file was deposited in SPSS 
portable format.

DOCUMENTATION
Word documentation converted to Adobe Acrobat PDF format 
using Acrobat Exchange 5.0 and compiled into User Guide. 
Bookmarks added to aid navigation. 


Data and documentation problems
-------------------------------
User should note that the technical report suggests that 
the data file has been weighted by weighting variable WT. 
The weighting has been turned OFF prior to UKDA processing,
and users should turn the weight on prior to analysis.

The variables in the data file generally have only numeric
names, and run in sequence, apart from a few anomalies.
However, all variables in the data file run in questionnaire
order and all variables and values are labelled, so are easy
to identify.

Users should note, however, that data from question 51a,
'How interested would you say you are in politics' does not
appear in the dataset. This has been queried with the depositor
and will be added to the dataset if subsequently deposited.

Textual responses to questions 108 and 109 regarding chief
wage earner's profession and job are also not present in the
dataset. Extra variables covering occupational coding are
included at the end of the data file.

Throughout the dataset, the value label 'na' has been used
to denote 'No answer', whereas 'nap' means 'Not applicable'.
