Audrey Brown

Chief Statistician at the Department for Children, Schools and Families
(DCSF).
Audrey Brown has been the Chief Statistician at the Department for
Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) since 1996 with overall responsibility
for providing analysis of data about schools. She was a council member of the
Royal Statistical Society from 2004 to 2008. Audrey was awarded the Commander of
the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2007.
During her career, Audrey has been a statistician at the Further
Education of Funding Council and before that at the Department for
Education (a previous incarnation of DCSF) where she was responsible for
publishing statistics on further and higher education, and education finance.
Between 1976 and 1987 Audrey was based at the Office of Population Censuses and
Surveys (OPCS) managing the Longitudinal Study and working on household
composition, fertility and the census. During this time she also had a
spell at Eurostat.
