Course title: Introduction to the
ESDS International Databanks (Available as Full or Half day)
This course, aimed at postgraduate students, researchers, data librarians
and teaching staff from the social sciences, provides an in depth guide to
the resources available through ESDS International. ESDS International is
a specialist data service of the Economic and Social Data Service and provides
online access to the major databanks produced by international governmental
organisations such as the World Bank and United Nations. Access to the service
is free for staff and students of UK academic institutions.
This introductory course has a particular emphasis on the service’s
extensive data portfolio. Attendees will be introduced to the structure, content
and research potential of the international databanks and gain practical experience
in accessing, exploring and visualising the data using Beyond 20/20 in hands-on sessions.
A brief overview of the Economic and Social Data Service as a whole is also
included on this course.
Pre-requisites: None.

service overview
This one hour session provides an overview of the International Data Service
and its data portfolio. Through a PowerPoint presentation attendees are introduced
to the structure, content and research potential of macro (country level,
aggregate) international data, produced by organisations such as the IMF,
World Bank and OECD. The session includes a demonstration of ESDS International’s
delivery software Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server.
